Peter Symonds College in Winchester have masses of excellent curriculum linked interactive resources (click on the Search button – putting nothing in the Search for… box and you will see a list of 102 sets of themed resources). Sets can include any of the following: interactive PowerPoints, Word documents (including drag and drop worksheets and embedded sound), links to external web sites, Hot Potatoes quizzes and more.
Covers many areas of the literacy and numeracy curricula across all Entry levels – with a few at Levels 1 and 2 (e.g. Value Added Tax – sadly now now out of date, and L1 proofreading). Try Trip to the Zoo, Around the House, and Everyday Signs with Entry 1 students.
Some sets are context free (e.g. prefixes, percentage crossword, difficult words) but the majority are embedded in real life situations and thus ideal for Functional Skills. For example, try Working in a hotel which covers Entry Level number, measures, reading and writing and includes filing exercises (alphabetical order), hotel advertisement (cloze exercise), setting tables (calculating no. knives and forks), dates (events diary) and stock taking (wine cellar). Other topics include takeway pizzas, gardening, libraries, healthy living and eating, going to the doctor, interviews, buying from a catalogue, at the bookies, and applying for a job.
These resources have been around for along time but remain amongst my top favourites :)
